Today we had our amazing counselor come and talk to us about spreading kindness and giving other people compliments to lift one another up! This was our kindness circle full of sweet, kind kiddos with big smiles

Upcoming Dates and Important Info

First off, your kids are amazing!!!

Next some important dates coming your way!

I am giving until tomorrow afternoon to place scholastic orders. My scholastic code is NGZ2M if you would like to order online. Send CHECKS otherwise. Scholastic book orders are a great way to get books your kids are interested in and WANT to read. A child is driven by interest. Buying or selecting books from a book order or library also give your kiddo a chance to have favorite authors, genres, or characters that they fall in love with!

Thursday Sept 2o, PICTURE DAY!! All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook! Smile!!!!

Friday, send a note for Pep Rally of you would like your child to participate.

We have early release next Wednesday, September 26th for PLC teacher training.  A note will go home about the times and I will let you know via blog as well.

October 5th is our Homecoming and there will be an early release day for that too so that any and all students who want to attend can.  We will release at 1:15 on October 5th for many reasons (traffic being the main one for our bus route).  Your kiddo can wear a mum or garter to school but we will take them off and keep them safe until it is time to be released.

Please make all transportation arrangements for early release days and let me know through the planner.

Spelling:  These are our words for the next two weeks: he, for, was, on, are, as, with, his, they, at  We have highlighted the first 10 words on our spelling list.  I will be holding them accountable for these words in their reading and writing from now on!  I do give an “authentic” spelling grade from their writing 2-3 times in a nine weeks.  This means I grade spelling words that they use when they write.

Phonics:  We should know short vowel sounds and are now working on long vowel sounds and word families.

Math:  We are working on the greater than/less than/equal to vocabulary and signs.  We continue to do number talks to allow the students to share how they see and understand numbers.  We are also talking about addition and subtraction on the number path.

Science/Social Studies:  We are working on color mixing and doing some fun experiments with that.  We are also talking about our 5 senses.  We read and watch some awesome books and videos this week and next week we get to “test” our senses.  They enjoy being scientists.

“Mixing it Up” in Science

We have been exploring colors!!! What happens when you mix colors together!? Yesterday we got to use our science fingers to mix paint and today we got a little SCIENTIFIC and tasty treat! I’d say they enjoyed themselves all while learning! Tomorrow we learn some more with another fun experiment!

Graded papers coming home and Homework

Our first math quiz is coming home. I am proud of our overall grades!! They have worked hard.

Our first spelling test is coming home. I was blown away by the awesome grades on our first spelling test!! 🙂

Please praise their awesome work and correct or talk about any errors

Homework is coming home. They are to count the number of balls, label how many, and circle the clown with more. This is quick but must be completed and returned for credit. 🙂

Thank you!!

Spelling Practice Pictures. Test Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the first spelling test for our first graders. It will be a fill in the blank test and a dictation sentence on the back. The spelling preview is coming home today to study. I have circled the words to study.

We have also been practicing our words with our play-doh for word review. This is just one fun way to practice at home! Here are some pictures!

This Week

We will have our first spelling test on Tuesday! We have written them in the planner, worked on them independently and in small groups during stations, and gone over them whole group. We will have a spelling preview Monday, to review and study for the test Tuesday.

In reading and phonics, your student will be pulled individually for our district state assessment called TPRI. By next week, I will begin seeing guided reading groups 🙂 We will move from our short vowel lessons to our long vowels lessons to help your sweeties to read, write, and spell by recognizing vowels have two sounds. We will be making charts and writing words with these sounds.

Handwriting and Penmanship Practice is being stressed this year in all grades. We are working on forming letters correctly and legibly.

In math, we are still working on adding with strategies and will work with greater than and less than.

In science, we will be exploring primary and secondary colors.

In writing, I will be modeling good writing and what good writers do. We will begin our first class story this week.

We go to P.E on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Be sure to wear tennis shoes these days.

Please feel free to text, email, or call with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for all you  do!

This week

We are continuing learning our vowels and vowel sounds as well as word families. We need to be solid in these things to be better readers and writers throughout the year. The word families -ing, -og, -it, and -in will be focused on. Ask your kiddos about our vowel song: “a,e,i,o,u these are the vowels this is true”

Spelling words are: a, the, and, of, to, in, is, you, that it. Spelling test is next Tuesday!

Math: Continuing learning different strategies to solve word problems. We have learned draw a picture to solve, use a tens frame to solve, and use a number path to solve. We are learning and practicing them all until your kiddo finds their perfect and most efficient way to solve for them.

We are going to finish up our author studies over Kevin Henkes by Friday. Ask your kids about their favorite one we’ve read so far!

Our annual fundraiser of the Monster Truck Finals is Saturday. I will be sending home the Free Child Admission tickets Wednesday or Thursday so you have less time to misplace them.(haha) This is a great fundraiser for our school, students, and campuses! And a really great time! I hope to see you there!!

We are still reviewing a lot of procedures but they are getting better everyday!! Thanks!
