Spelling Practice Pictures. Test Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the first spelling test for our first graders. It will be a fill in the blank test and a dictation sentence on the back. The spelling preview is coming home today to study. I have circled the words to study.

We have also been practicing our words with our play-doh for word review. This is just one fun way to practice at home! Here are some pictures!

This Week

We will have our first spelling test on Tuesday! We have written them in the planner, worked on them independently and in small groups during stations, and gone over them whole group. We will have a spelling preview Monday, to review and study for the test Tuesday.

In reading and phonics, your student will be pulled individually for our district state assessment called TPRI. By next week, I will begin seeing guided reading groups 🙂 We will move from our short vowel lessons to our long vowels lessons to help your sweeties to read, write, and spell by recognizing vowels have two sounds. We will be making charts and writing words with these sounds.

Handwriting and Penmanship Practice is being stressed this year in all grades. We are working on forming letters correctly and legibly.

In math, we are still working on adding with strategies and will work with greater than and less than.

In science, we will be exploring primary and secondary colors.

In writing, I will be modeling good writing and what good writers do. We will begin our first class story this week.

We go to P.E on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Be sure to wear tennis shoes these days.

Please feel free to text, email, or call with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for all you  do!

This week

We are continuing learning our vowels and vowel sounds as well as word families. We need to be solid in these things to be better readers and writers throughout the year. The word families -ing, -og, -it, and -in will be focused on. Ask your kiddos about our vowel song: “a,e,i,o,u these are the vowels this is true”

Spelling words are: a, the, and, of, to, in, is, you, that it. Spelling test is next Tuesday!

Math: Continuing learning different strategies to solve word problems. We have learned draw a picture to solve, use a tens frame to solve, and use a number path to solve. We are learning and practicing them all until your kiddo finds their perfect and most efficient way to solve for them.

We are going to finish up our author studies over Kevin Henkes by Friday. Ask your kids about their favorite one we’ve read so far!

Our annual fundraiser of the Monster Truck Finals is Saturday. I will be sending home the Free Child Admission tickets Wednesday or Thursday so you have less time to misplace them.(haha) This is a great fundraiser for our school, students, and campuses! And a really great time! I hope to see you there!!

We are still reviewing a lot of procedures but they are getting better everyday!! Thanks!

Papers and Notes

I hope you all had a restful 3 day weekend!

There will be literacy and math station work coming home most every day with your child. The station work was completed in small group during the day. Please take the time to look over and talk with your child about the work they bring home. Also, please remove the work from the folder each day. We do a lot of journaling in class where they keep in class work as well, so that stays at school. We also do a lot of crafts and writing in class. You will have a chance to see this work at conferences and/or after it comes off the presentation wall in the hallway.

There will also be graded papers coming home periodically. When I send home graded papers, we typically right the note in our planners so you are sure to see it. It is a great idea to look over graded papers with your child to praise them, or to go over missed questions, and/or to correct any missed questions. I tell them “great job” all the time but I know hearing it from their mom and dad will make them proud as well!

You also have probably seen all of the notes coming home (there have been several). Please read the notes, sign and return(if needed) or just read and remove them from your child’s folder.

Remember to send notes in planners for change in transportation or important notes. Reading is homework every night. Reading logs must be signed each night. At the end of September, your child will receive a free pizza hut personal pizza coupon if they have reached their reading log goal number.

Thank you for ALL you do! You each have such a special kid and they each have made this class into something phenomenal! We are just getting started and have already learned a lot and are going to grow in our learning so much more! We are in this together!

Pep Rally Friday

Friday is our first Pep Rally for the year. There are some serious things we have to do to make sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

First! Your child MUST have a note to be excused for the Pep Rally at 2:30. Send a note or write in planner.

Second! This is going to be a busy time of the day with all of the parents coming to get their child. Please be sure to be patient and understanding of the rules and helpers. Pep Rallies start at 3:00 in the High School Gym.

Also, I am loving hearing about lil football players and lil cheerleaders along with gymnasts and soccer players. Please send me a schedule of the games so I can attend! It is one of my favorite things and I want them to know I support them outside of school and want to see what else they are good at.

Thank you so much for all that you do!!

Spelling words

I forgot an important part of our week. We will have spelling words to learn how to read, write, and spell. Over the year, they will be responsible for 100. Each week, the kids will get 5 new words. They will write them in their planners each week and we will have a spelling test every two weeks. Spelling words for the next two weeks are: the, of, and, a, to, in, is, you, that, it.  These are review words from Kindergarten so they should be pretty easy for our sweeties.  Please make practice fun for example: let them write them in shaving cream(this is a great cleaning tool) sticks in dirt, air writing, writing on your back then theirs to try to figure out, etc…

This week

I hope you all had a very restful weekend!

Back to school tomorrow! Let me inform you on what is to come for you and your child

Reading logs will be sent home starting tomorrow. I will be testing to get appropriate reading levels for your child so I will be sending books home that might not fit just right. Your child may read the book I send home in addition to any book from home. If the book I send home is too easy, have them read for fluency (phrased and fluent). If the book I send home is too difficult, please read it to/with them. After we can begin Guided Reading groups the books will be on level. Your child is responsible for reading every night. You are to write the name of the book your child reads and your initials on the corresponding date. I will check reading logs every day.

In math, we will be working on number sense, subitizing, and strategies to solve addition word problems.

We are still going through routines and procedures. Please continue to look at and INITIAL planners daily for communication, logged behavior and upcoming information for you child.

Thank you for all that YOU do! You are their first teacher! Together we can work together to make this year WONDERFUL for one another and especially THE CHILDREN!! Please contact me anytime~

Friday

We finally have the whole class here and finished up pictures today!! I am already so on love with this class!! We are going to have a great year! I am excited to learn more about them and their personalities! 🙂 Enjoy your weekend and then we will be back for a full week of school!

We are learning and practicing many classroom and school procedures for the next couple of weeks. Please no lunch visitors until after our Labor Day holiday!

Please write all notes, transportation changes, or anything you would like me to know in the planner. This is the best line of daily communication because I check them every morning. Please initial the planner each day, so I know you have seen it.  Thank you so much for sharing your sweeties!! I am looking forward to  a fantastic year!! Below is our First Grade Class as a group and individuals!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

One More Sleep

One more sleep until 1st grade begins!

A couple of things to remember:

Make sure your sweetie gets breakfast! Their schedule isn’t as free anymore and we are very scheduled. I will be providing snacks the first week or so, to get their tummies back in the habit of school. If you would like to provide snacks for our class it is greatly appreciated.

Water bottles are allowed as long as there is a screw on top where the bottle wont spill 🙂

You will be able to walk your kid down to the classroom for the first few days. Doors will open at 7:30. The first day can be confusing, overwhelming, and crowded, so be sure to build in extra time for finding classrooms and giving a big hug goodbye. A simple hug can go a long way in making them feel loved and ready for a new adventure. If your baby is having a hard time, a huge hug and a quick escape will make it easier for them to start adjusting.

Turn in and fill out all required forms, if you haven’t already.

Send a note, email, or text if there is something I need to know to help our day run smoothly. The morning will be a busy one.

And lastly TAKE A MINUTE FOR YOURSELF! You deserve it!!

This year is going to be great!!

DON’T FORGET YOUR JITTER GLITTER UNDER YOUR PILLOW…the night before school might be a nervous one 🙂
